Thanksgiving has now come and gone and I am left feeling full of delicious food and love! I hope you all enjoyed turkey day with your families! We had a double dose of turkey day, celebrating with family both Wednesday and Thursday evenings so I will be happily avoiding turkey and mashed potatoes for several weeks…or months to come ;) Usually, when it comes to my thanksgiving day outfit, I like to dress up a bit but this year, I kept it comfortable and casual. I found this scarf on sale at Ann Taylor and feel in love with its texture, simplicity, and sale price! (Ann Taylor is having a site-wide sale currently, 40% off your entire purchase, so take advantage!) I knew I needed to shnaz up my look a bit (shnaz is totally a word) so I opted for pearl drop earrings. I wore my hair in a messy, twisted, fishtail braid so the pearls could be seen. This hair style is actually really easy to achieve! I twisted my hair back on each side and pinned it as though I was going to wear it half-up/half-down. I then carefully braided the fishtail off to the side using the remaining falling strands. Literally a 5 minute hair style and it looks much fancier than it is. Make sure to pull out the braid a bit to give it that messy look! Usually, I wrap a piece of hair around my hair tie and secure it with a hidden bobby pin but my hair is just a bit too short right now to do so! I topped the look with my lovely blanket coat from Anthropologie, which also happens to have great holiday promotions right now so get busy shopping! All in all, it was a great holiday and I am so excited the Christmas season is officially upon us!
P.S. we have some great gift guides coming your way, so stay tuned!
Forever 21 Mock Neck Top, Madewell High-Waisted Skinny Jeans, Madewell Leopard Loafers (no longer available – similar ballet flat style, and similar loafer pair), Urban Outfitters Crossbody (no longer available – love this similar structured style)
I’m back in California for Thanksgiving and it’s a shocking 70 degrees! I was almost too hot in this all black ensemble but I just couldn’t resist the chic, Audrey Hepburn inspired look. This conservative, mock neck sweater always makes me feel so sophisticated, and it was less than $20! Paired with a hint of leopard and dark mulberry in the bag, this all black outfit is kicked up a notch while still being universally flattering and appropriate. I was able to feel dressed up while still staying comfortable running errands around town all day, my absolute favorite kind of outfit! I hope you all are soaking up time with your family and loved ones this holiday season! Happy Thanksgiving!
GAP Denim Jacket, Forever 21 Black Furry Cardigan, J. Crew Black Scarf, Nike Leggings, Nike Dunk Sky Hi Rose Gold Sneakers (limited edition – similar style here), Anthropologie Beanie (no longer available – love this striped style), Zara Crossbody (no longer available – similar here)
Ahh, three cheers for the weekend! It’s been so chilly in Portland this last week but fortunately, the sun peeked out this weekend! Its so much easier to deal with 30 degrees when the sun is shining and you have a cup of coffee in your hand :) When it comes to weekend wear, especially cold weather weekend wear, layering is your best friend! Not only does layering provide necessary warmth but it enables you to add plenty of coziness and dimension to your comfy look. I feel so at home in this outfit. I started with a blank, black canvas: black leggings, a long black tank top and a furry Forever 21 (under 25$) sweater. In order to add extra warmth and a color other than black, I layered a classic denim jacket and topped the look off (pun intended) with this lovely textured Anthropologie beanie! This is the time of year when a bad hair day is so easily remedied! Throw on a beanie and you’re good to go. Finally, I threw on a simple black scarf for extra warmth! I try and wear my rose gold Nike sneaks any chance I get because they are just beautiful, and this tomboy chic outfit was just right for them. Even though the weekends can entice you to wear nothing but gym wear – I hope this shows how a mix of gym and street wear can result in a cute, chic, and comfortable weekend look. Enjoy, rest up, and stay warm this weekend!
Tory Burch Ocelot Bag (similar shopper style here), ASOS Bomber Jacket (no longer available – similar here and here), Forever 21 Sweater, GAP Striped Tee (on sale!), Madewell Skinny Jeans, Dolce Vita Booties (no longer available – love these and this heeled pair both on sale!)
Some days, its best to get back to basics. This outfit is all about easy comfort. I enjoyed several happy hour margaritas in this fit! It’s the perfect balance of friday casual and evening out for drinks. I am loving these black booties from Nordstrom Rack by Dolce Vita. They are such a classic downtown style bootie and I’ve found they pair well with just about anything! You all know by now my affection for leopard. Let’s be honest, its officially a neutral. Here, I paired it with a striped top and black sweater – a combination that never feels out of style. This pseudo leather bomber jacket is an ASOS pickup from last year. I have always been a girl who felt a little uncomfortable in a full-on black leather jacket so this textured bomber with leather patched shoulders is the perfect compromise for me! Hopefully this inspires you all to embrace your inner “downtown” girl.
Currently, Anthropologie is having a 25% off sale for Holiday jewelry pieces! This is big news as Anthropologie is one of our favorite shops. Earrings are an accessory staple but they are really surging in trendiness right now with cuffs, ear climbers and earring sets all over the place. When it comes to holiday dressing – it is time to shine! It you decide to invest in a dangle style, we recommend you wear your hair up in a top knot or in a low chignon. You can choose a more sleek style with hair tucked behind your ears or feel free to embrace a softer, more feminine style with braided details. Either way – show off those earrings! When it comes to a great stud, we love to part our hair deep to one side and tuck our hair behind one ear to let the stud peek out and shine.
If you choose to go with a statement earring when it comes to your holiday look, we recommend toning down your necklace choice. Feel free to add a bold ring or ring set, as it is far enough away from your ear to not visually compete with your earring selection. Stick with dainty layered necklaces or no necklace at all to ensure your statement earrings are the focus.
When it comes to color – you can’t go wrong! All of our selections above would work wonderfully with outfits of so many hues – blue, black, emerald, berry, white, cream, camel – you name it! You really can’t go wrong and when it comes to these beauties – we say the bigger the better.
We can’t wait to capitalize on this sale and add some holiday bling to our ears! We hope you will too!

This is our first installment of our monthly “wish lists” on NwN and we’re really excited about it! Of course, there is always excitement at the turn of a new season for wardrobe updates but why wait three months before dreaming about new additions to your wardrobe? That’s no fun! We feel like every month has its own unique pulse when it comes to fashion. Different colors, prints, silhouettes, and accessories capture the vibe and essence of each month. November is one of my favorite months of the year for a number of reasons.
1. I love Fall in general – you just can’t beat sweaters, scarves, hot coffee, crisp morning air, changing leaves, college football, pumpkin spice lattes (yes, basic, but basic and proud) the list goes on and on.
2. November is the month of Thanksgiving which is my second favorite holiday to Christmas. It is so fun to gather with family and friends and say thanks for all of the beautiful blessings in our lives. It is easy to get bogged down by our daily responsibilities and stresses but it is extremely important to maintain perspective. We are so fortunate to have roofs over our heads, warm clothes on our backs (fashionable ones at that! ;) ), and good health for ourselves and loved ones. I love the smell of my dad’s sweet potato mash in the oven and the chatter of my mom and aunts in the kitchen while they prepare food together. The whole day evokes such happiness in my heart and brings some of the best memories to the forefront.
3. November is the month where warm fall colors should really be embraced before the more cool tones of winter are incorporated into your wardrobe. I am never one to stick by hard lined rules about when its appropriate to wear what. If you want to wear white after labor day – you go Glen Coco. But I do believe that fall colors such as deep burgundy, rich emerald, and warm earth tones should be embraced in November.
This layout inspires a month of early morning coffee runs, shopping on grey Portland days, and curling up with family and friends at Thanksgiving. I absolutely love a poncho for this time of year as it’s not quite cold enough for a heavy winter jacket but a simple sweater won’t cut it. The pattern on this one evokes the feeling of literally wearing a blanket – which I am all for! The boots are simply to die for. Simple with a gold pop heel – these could be worn with tights and a wool skirt or with black denim and a chunky sweater.
The accessories are key this month! As weather gets colder and more of your outfit is hidden underneath your jacket, it is crucial to add flare to your outfit with jewelry, hats and bags. This is beanie season – go out and rock them! This flat brim fedora is another November staple if you’re feeling a little trendier. Rings happen to be my favorite accessory – if it didn’t look terribly gaudy to have one on every finger I totally would. This stackable set by Tory Burch is such an easy way to add some punch to a simple outfit – and a great gift-able item as the holidays are just around the corner!
For me, November is the official kick-off to the Holiday season (it doesn’t hurt that our first snowfall of the year here in Boston fell perfectly on November 1st)! Although there are many reasons to love the Holidays, my favorite fashion-wise is the excuse to get formal. As a college student, there aren’t many occasions in which it is appropriate to dress up in my nicest pearls and heels so I love to take advantage of the Holiday season!
It is easy to get stuck in the rut of grey, cold mornings so I try to be inspired by the lighter things that the colder months offer like snowfall, and twinkling lights. I really love the mix of rich hues combined with the feminine silhouette that this ASOS dress has to offer. It can be dressed up with classic black pumps for a Holiday party or it can be paired under a textured sweater, with tights and smoking slippers for a day-time look.
Like Ally said, accessories are a necessity when majority of your outfit is bundled under a coat. On my wish list for this year is a nice formal clutch. I always find myself frantically searching my closet for a bag that fits a more formal occasion, so a classic clutch like this Kate Spade one (only $78 and the bow is a timeless detail!) is at the top of my list. I am also OBSESSED with these 360 pearl stud earrings. They’re almost identical to the Dior pair but a fraction of the price (only $28, hence why I am SO tempted to get both the blush and ivory colors). BaubleBar is always a go-to of mine when it comes to trendy jewelry on a budget.
Lastly, I wanted to share with you all a current make-up favorite of mine, NARS lipgloss. I already have this shade in “Chihuahua” and it is the perfect, all-around flattering, pink. I’ll be keeping my eye out for Holiday sales so I can hopefully pick up a few more colors for myself and loved ones as I think they’d make the perfect gift.
We hope this new layout inspires you to think about what you’re craving this month and gives you some ideas for how to bring November into your closet! Don’t forget to stop and be thankful for all the gifts in your life this month!

The other day I had the awesome opportunity of getting to meet The College Prepster, a blogger that I have followed for about a year now. I attended Carly’s meet and greet in the Tucker Blair showroom, which was absolutely gorgeous! The Beacon Street room looks out over the public gardens and has the perfect amount of old Boston charm. I had such a fun time talking to fellow readers/bloggers and learning from some of Carly’s advice and experience. The blogging community is really an expansive one that I am always proud of and inspired by.
I also was able to use the meet and greet as an excuse to get off campus and explore downtown and the Beacon Hill area. Beacon Hill is a must visit if you’re in the Boston area! Charles Street is the best stretch of delicious bakeries and boutiques. If you take a turn off of Charles Street, you’ll find yourself strolling in front of the most beautiful ivy covered townhouses with varying door colors (this red one with the pumpkins was my favorite)! It happened to be a beautiful, sunny day in Boston so I was able to get away with a thin vest instead of my typical heavy fall coat. This black and white vest from Madewell is one of my new favorites because wait for it, it’s reversible! The other side is a quilted, neutral black that is perfect for throwing over sweatshirts on my casual days. As you can tell, my Longchamp bag is stuffed with my computer, notebook, and books as I had left for the meet and greet from class. It may be a complete East Coast thing, but Longchamps are the go-to over here as a replacement for backpacks. Mine is a hand-me-down from after Ally graduated college (thanks Al!) and it has still held up after daily use! I will always recommend a Longchamp for those working girls/students out there who need a sturdy and roomy tote.
This past weekend, Emma and I ran the Nike Women’s Half-Marathon in San Francisco. It was such a perfect race experience, from the expo on Saturday to the Tiffany’s necklaces waiting for us at the finish line. The expo was filled with amazing Nike product, video screens displaying the course, a killer DJ, a hair braiding station, and pointers from some of the most elite runners in the world. We left super pumped for race day! We had some time on Saturday to walk around and take pictures of one of our favorite cities. I rocked my rose gold Nike sneakers around town in honor of the race. By the time Sunday morning rolled around we were so excited to start! Em ran her first half-marathon like a champ and I was so excited to check my fourth half-marathon off the bucket list. We were so proud and excited to grab those beautiful blue boxes at the finish! Can’t wait for our next trip to SF and our next half-marathon together!
