Anthropologie Dress (no longer available-love this dramatic tea-length dress, this pretty floral one (under $100!), and this on sale floral mini), BCBG Wedges (no longer available-similar here and here on sale at J.Crew!)
Welcome to “Wedding Week” on Northwest to Newbury! Ally and I figured “The Bride Guide” wouldn’t be complete without an outfit for the guest! This dress is one of my absolute favorites, I’ll find any excuse to wear it and a wedding is the perfect occasion. The pink floral pattern keeps it casual enough for a daytime garden event while the longer length, higher neckline, and sheen beneath the lace make it formal enough for an evening wedding. With tea-length it’s best to opt for a pair of nude wedges that elongate the leg. These nude wedges have embellishment on the toe and wrap around the ankle which calls back to the 1950’s silhouette of this dress. Loose glamorous waves round out the look (p.s. what do we think of the shorter do?! I’m loving the shorter hair – so easy, healthy, and fresh!). We can’t wait to share the rest of “The Bride Guide” with you this week as we lead up to Ally’s wedding on Sunday (Yes, this Sunday! It’s like Christmas in August over here – we are all so excited!).

Beautiful home inspiration in Dowtown Portland!
Ally and I have been extremely busy lately enjoying our last days of summer/prepping for her wedding but we wanted to share a couple of our favorite recent snaps from our Instagram! We love to capture beautiful places and spaces around Portland along with inside peaks at our outfits and recent purchases! Follow along at @northwesttonewbury to see more from NwN!

We believe in retail therapy as much as the next girl, but if we splurged every bad hair day our wallets would hate us! That’s where online window shopping comes in. The outfit opportunities are endless when surfing the web. It can be so fun and inspiring to put together outfits without the pressure and commitment of bringing it home to your closet! However, if you do happen to fall in love with an item online, we recommend bookmarking the page and coming back the next day. If you are just as excited about it 24 hours later then you know you’d still love it day-after-day in your wardrobe!
Jenny Han Dress (old-love this similar flowy option and this pleated shift dress), Dolce Vita Lace Shorts (no longer available-similar here and here), Anthropologie Clutch, DV by Dolce Vita Sandals, Anthropologie Sunglasses
Friday is date night for me and my fiancé and I always try to step up my game! This little number makes me feel really feminine and pretty. Believe it or not, this is a tunic and lace short combo – not a dress! The tunic is a tad too short so I throw my scalloped lace shorts underneath to transform it! This is such a great trick for many tunics and it really makes lace shorts worth the investment. The clutch was a bridal shower gift from my sister, Emma, to be worn on my honeymoon but I couldn’t resist pulling it out a little early! It is too adorable and goes with so many outfits. As far as my hair goes, pulling it half up in this wrapped fashion is a go-to look of mine. It is really simple. You start by pulling only the back portion of your hair into a half-up style. Then, proceed to wrap small pieces of hair from each side across the center point, pinning as you go! It looks so fancy and it literally take 5 minutes to get this date ready style.
Topshop Sweater, AG Boyfriend Jeans, Forever21 Flats, Rebecca Minkoff Crossbody, Anthropologie Necklace
So if you guys haven’t noticed…I have a thing for sweaters. They’re flattering and practical especially for school days in Boston. This cropped one from Topshop is my new favorite! I love that it has a higher neckline to balance out the cropped length. Not only can I keep it casual with a pair of distressed boyfriend jeans, but I’m really excited to pair it with high waisted skirts (both midis and minis) for nights out and formal day events! Every time I enter Forever21 I’m surprised by the absolute steals they have. The most recent find? These classic, suede, pointy-toe flats! They fit both Ally and me (double bonus) so the amount of wear these flats are going to get in the coming months is quite a lot.
Floral Anthropologie Top, American Eagle Distressed Skinny Jeans, J.Crew Studded Loafers (old-love this similar flats pair and this on sale splurge), Kate Spade Bag (no longer available-similar here), Ray-Ban Sunglasses
This outfit combines two of my most favorite things – braids and floral. I feel so feminine in this silk floral top and wanted to echo that with a loose, braided chignon. To keep the look on trend, I paired the floral top with distressed skinny jeans and my nude studded loafers which literally go with everything! I almost paired this top with colored jeans but ultimately decided that the floral really pops against blue jeans best. When putting outfits together, make sure you choose your hero! The hero is the item you build your entire outfit around. I let the hero item dictate my hair, makeup, and accessory choices. This method really helps you build a concise, intentional look!
Anthropologie Pullover, Forever21 Dress (old-similar here and here), Sam Edelman Booties, Kate Spade Bag (no longer available-similar here), Anthropologie Sunglasses
When I’m not sure what I’m in the mood to wear / have trouble putting an outfit together, I can always fall back on an easy, breezy dress. Today, my white dress seemed lackluster on its own so I tried throwing a jean jacket over the top, then a cute colored blazer, but neither inspired me. After grazing past this new top from Anthropologie hanging in my closet, it dawned on me that the loose fit, dropped hem, and army green color might be just perfect over the dress. Just like that – voila! A boho, comfy, chic look was born. It is so rewarding to experiment with the clothing you have and stumble across new outfits. Now I know this top can be layered over loose tunics and dresses in addition to looking adorable paired with skinny jeans. I completed the look with my all time favorite Sam Edelman brown booties. Hopefully this look will inspire you to layer up and get creative with your own closet! Just try it on, you never know what combo may strike gold.
Gingham Gap Button-up, American Eagle High-Rise Shorts, Converse Sneakers, Kate Spade Bag, Essie Polish “Penny Talk”
Gap is one of my go-to places for classic and affordable pieces, like this checked button-up. It’s no surprise this classic menswear piece has been a favorite of women everywhere for decades. It is so effortless and comfortable, perfect for weekend errands and it pairs so easily with cutoff jean shorts and Converse. To give the look a little pop of color, I wore my neon Kate Spade clutch. Also, how fun is this nail polish?! Like metallic accessories right on my finger nails! Can’t wait to turn this color festive during the holiday season!
Anthropologie Sweater Tank, Distressed Topshop Boyfriend Jeans, Madewell Sandals (also similar here), Kate Spade Bag (no longer available-similar here), Ray-Ban Sunglasses
This outfit proves sweaters aren’t reserved for fall! Above all seasons, fall is my favorite for the comfy sweaters, scarves and boots. I couldn’t have been more excited to find this sweater tank from Anthropologie. It was love at first sight! To be able to incorporate cable knit into a summer outfit is a win in my book! The slit up the side and the built-in under-tank keep the piece breezy and feminine. I paired it with my Topshop boyfriend jeans that I can’t get enough of. They are extremely comfortable and can be the staple of so many cute outfits! For shoes, I rocked my Madewell “Thea” sandals in rust. They are such a great summery flat in an unexpected neutral tone. I think they keep this look cool, casual, edgy, and on trend!
Gap Sweater (old-similar style here), American Eagle Shorts, Sam Edelman Booties (Nordstrom Anniversary Sale!), Rebecca Minkoff Quilted Bag (Nordstrom Anniversary Sale!), Anthropologie Sunglasses, Kate Spade Earrings and Kate Spade Bracelet (old-love this all gold option)
You may recognize these beautiful brown booties from another one of our posts – “Nordstrom Anniversary Sale-Emma’s Picks”. I picked up a couple of things at the Anniversary sale this year including this Topshop dress and the Rebecca Minkoff bag worn in this outfit (p.s. prices go up August 4th, don’t miss out on all the great discounts)! I really love ankle booties because they translate to all seasons, and these are no exception! For now, I’m working them into my summer wardrobe by pairing them with classic and crisp white shorts. This thin Gap sweater was the perfect grey tone to compliment the shorts and brown boots and it too transitions seamlessly into fall. Since this look is all about a casual, “I took five minutes to get ready” vibe, I kept my accessories minimal and wore a few of my staple pieces including my Kate Spade earrings and studded bracelet, a Christmas gift from Ally’s fiancé…he’s obviously a keeper ;). Another way I plan to wear these boots while the weather is still hot is paired with the bohemian dress featured in “Boho MOH“.
